Every year, thousands of high schoolers enter the August Wilson monologue competition for a chance to perform on Broadway. This film follows these students, examining how Wilson and his characters speak to a new generation, inspiring them to listen to his words and find their own voice.。Leslie天性孤独，在朋友鼓励下参加了歌唱比赛得到作曲家米高的赏识，从此踏上歌手之路的Leslie得初恋情人毛毛扶持，才捱过一段艰难的日子，可惜最后以分手收场。情场失意的Leslie在事业上看见曙光，经理人芬姐助他事业起飞。同时，他亦遇上了爱人Daffy开展了二十年的感情。世事多变，就在丰收期，他受胃液倒流困扰，更患上了抑郁，最后也敌不过心魔……。
